New Specification for High-Octane Unleaded Aviation Gasoline Test Fuel Containing an Oxygenated Component

1. Scope

This specification covers performance and compositional specifications for purchases of ether-containing unleaded (UL100) aviation test fuels under contract and is intended solely for use by purchasing agencies for testing purposes.

Keywords

ETBE, MTBE, TEL, MMT, oxygenated, aviation gasoline, spark ignition:

Rationale

Current ASTM D6227 standard for aviation gasoline containing a non-hydrocarbon component does not include a broad enough specification for oxygen or include grades with motor octane greater than 87 or specify the use organometallic octane boosters. ASTM D8434 does allow for organometallic additives other than lead but not oxygenated components.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
