New Guide for Sustainable Agricultural Practices

1. Scope

Provide recommended procedures and processes to maintain existing crop yields or consider more viable crops for the environmental conditions that exist or will exist in the near future. Assess the available resources for sustaining the current agricultural practices and whether the natural resources are adequate or will be depleted. Evaluate if current irrigation practices are sustainable and if modifications should be made to provide or maintain an ecological balance between use and replenishment. What type of crops should be selected based on the environmental or resource limitations.

Keywords

Drought; Drought, flooding, climate change, piping, underground storage, water table.

Rationale

The current agricultural practices are depleting the ecological balance in many areas of the world. An effort needs to be made to bring our crop selection back in line with what is sustainable for the resources available or find means for accommodating these selections based on measures to conserve the existing resources to meet these needs. This guide is intended to provide options for providing a consistent harvest in an ever changing environment.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
