New Test Methods for Vertebral Body Tether Implant Applications

1. Scope

These test methods cover the materials and methods for the static and fatigue testing of vertebral body tethering (VBT) implant assemblies, or similar surgical implant assemblies. The test materials for most combinations of VBT implant components can be specific, depending on the intended spinal location and intended method of application to the spine.

Keywords

fatigue test methods; vertebral body tether; static test methods

Rationale

Vertebral body tether is a relatively new technique for correcting scoliosis in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients. As of now, no standardized test methods exist for testing implants or systems related to vertebral body tethering. Users would be test labs and manufacturers who want to test vertebral body tethering.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
