New Guide for Flaw Detection using Nonlinear Resonance Ultrasound Inspection

1. Scope

This guide describes a general procedure and its variants, and a vocabulary, for detecting flaws in metallic and non-metallic parts using nonlinear resonance ultrasound inspection methods. The procedure is intended for use with instruments capable of exciting and recording whole-body resonance conditions within parts which exhibit acoustical or ultrasonic ringing. It is used to distinguish acceptable parts from those containing flaws such as cracks, delaminations, AM flaws (layer and cross-layer) that are closely correlated with nonlinear mechanical system dynamic responses of the parts.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
