Revision of F1924-19 Standard Specification for Plastic Mechanical Fittings for Use on Outside Diameter Controlled Polyethylene Gas Distribution Pipe and Tubing
Rationale
I am requesting F17.60 projects for both ASTM F1948 (Metallic Mechanical Fittings) & F1924 (PE Mechanical Fittings). These specifications require 80C sustained pressure testing; however, they both use stress levels for MDPE and do not include stress levels for HDPE. I propose to require that the test stress and minimum time-to-failure for the test be based on the pipe material and fitting material used. If both MDPE and HDPE materials are used, test stress and minimum time-to-failure shall be based on MDPE material. Table 1 in F1924 and Table 1 in F1948 will be changed to match Table 2 in F1055 for PE material. Sustained pressure test for PA material will be changed per PA material (11 or 12).
