Revision of D4294-21 Standard Test Method for Sulfur in Petroleum and Petroleum Products by Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry
Rationale
: Subcommittee D02.03 received a comment that the precision statement listed in the method, D2622-21 does not match the cited precision listed in the research report, D02-1622. At D02.03’s December 2023 meeting, the subcommittee discussed two options for correcting this mismatch: 1) correcting the error in the research report or 2) updating the method with a note identifying the cause of the mismatch. The subcommittee learned that research reports are not updated, therefore the addition of a note was determined the appropriate pathway to explain the mismatch. The ballot for D2622’s note was successfully balloted in the spring of 2024. This ballot attempts to provide the same note to explain the mismatch between D4929’s precision statement and the research report, D02-1635. Both the D2622 and D4929 ils programs were run at the same time using the same sample sets.
