Revision of E336-23 Standard Test Method for Measurement of Airborne Sound Attenuation between Rooms in Buildings
Rationale
This ballot is part of the harmonization effort between E336 and E1007. Once these changes have been approved, similar changes will be made to E1007.
As part of the discussion at the April 2024 meeting, the task group agreed that a clearer statement was needed to emphasize that the three metrics are different and cannot be mixed to show compliance. Such language is currently required only for some metrics. This ballot changes this to apply to all reports regardless of the reported metric, and cleans up several related sections.
It also addresses a comment from S. Rawlings regarding the relative precision of the metrics. Because there has not been a technical analysis of the precision, this discussion point has been moved to a note, rather than required wording in the report.
Note that if E336 is revised prior to the acceptance of this ballot, these revisions will still be applicable to the same sections. These updates, along with several others, will be incorporated in a future revision.
The entirety of Section 13.1 is included for context. However, this ballot is only for the changes shown in 13.1, 13.1.4, 13.1.6.1, 13.1.6.2, and Note 28, as well as the corresponding renumbering.
